Frequently Asked Questions about Making CFK Cards and holding a 'Card Drive'
Where are the cards sent?
The cards are sent to children and youth across the globe who are affiliated with various organizations, shelters, or hospitals. Children may be facing poverty, homelessness, or a difficult situation. To learn more about the CFK partnership organizations, please visit the 'Organizations' tab.
How many cards have been sent?
Since the project began in November 2009, over 13,000 cards have been sent to help brighten the days of kids and teens.
Who can contribute?
Anyone who is interested in helping bring a smile to a child may contribute. Cards can be made by such groups as girl/boy scouts, senior programs, high school committees, schools, youth groups, etc.
How do I begin?
Begin by gathering material to make your own handmade or painted card (construction paper, card-stock paper, stickers, markers, paint, colored pencils, etc.). Cards can made for a particular holiday or have a general 'hello' themed greeting.
What do I write inside a card?
In the card you can write about your family, inspirational words, a poem, different hobbies, activities, sports, etc. that you enjoy doing. However, do not include information such as an address in your card. Please do not ask questions as the kids from the organizations may not have a chance to reply. Also, avoid such phrases as 'get well soon' and 'feel better.' Be sure to sign your first name inside the card to make it more personalized for the child receiving it.
Below are some inspirational poem and quote ideas:
A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
with beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
a better and happier place.

Our friends are like angels
Who brighten our days
In all kinds of wonderful
Their thoughtfulness comes
As a gift from above
And we feel we're surrounded
By warm, caring love
Like upside-down rainbows
Their smiles bring the sun
And they fill moments
With laughter and fun
Friends are like angels
Without any wings
Blessing our lives
With the most precious things

- Anthony J. D'Angelo
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."

Can I earn community service hours from CFK?
Yes, through making cards, holding a 'Card Drive,' or hosting a fundraiser you may earn community service hours, if needed. There are CFK community service requirements for each activity that must be fulfilled in order to earn your hours. When you finish your service activity, we will provide you with a signed CFK form showing your completed hours.
What is a 'Card Drive'?
A 'Card Drive' is an event that you organize in your school or community. During the event, volunteers have the opportunity to make cards and learn more about Cards for Kids. There are many different ways to hold a 'Card Drive.' For example, if you are a member of a high school community service club, you may have a 'Card Drive' for a week where students can bring in handmade or painted cards they create from home. You could also set up an after-school event where students create CFK cards at school. Please e-mail CFKproject@gmail.com if you are interested in holding a 'Card Drive.'
Your support helps to bring smiles to kids and teens all across the nation and world.
Please consider sending a monetary donation. Monetary donations are used to cover the expensive costs of shipping cards to organizations, shelters, and hospitals worldwide. With YOUR help, we can continue to send cards.
